Abby Hamilton

Three years of NCEA art has taught Abby that she works most effectively and creatively when she strips her ideas down to the bare basics. Focussing purely on shape and form; line and colour fostered her appreciation for simple design – this eventually morphing into her love for abstraction. The frames of figures and flowers she often depicts using basic mediums such as charcoal, acrylic, and ink, found that incorporating more than one medium conceived a new conceptual layer within her work. The expressive and fluid nature of ink painting now often affords her what representational works cannot; the time to explore new ideas and find a sense of creative freedom within her art.
